My 16 year-old son was just 8 when my Mother passed away & he cherishes the afghan she made that was on my bed throughout my childhood. I am laying on a zig-zag patterned one right now that my Grandma made back in the day. I think she called it Croshay. I guess the zigzag and square patterns that are in your pics were VERY popular once upon a time, they are still quite a few floating around my family members. I love these things!Retro Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04449168720520972716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7438691382825393831.post-36941887308017642802012-04-30T15:44:41.196-04:002012-04-30T15:44:41.196-04:00I love old afghans, too! When I see a pretty one in a thrift store it's almost impossible not to buy it...I think of the person that spent soooo many hours working on it, and then to see it sitting there all lonely and unappreciated just breaks my heart! (I know, I'm a freak)
You got some beauties, there...my favorite is the one with the pink edging. Love it!
I also have a mean case of the box invaders in my house ;-)Dina@VintageAdvantagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17722717867847557666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7438691382825393831.post-36098692629023297502012-04-30T14:07:38.729-04:002012-04-30T14:07:38.729-04:00My neighbors are in their 80s and bought their hou...My neighbors are in their 80s and bought their house when it was just a plot of land in the 40s. A well crafted handmade pre-1960's afghan is probably worth more than a 1970's manufactured one. Like anything else, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it!

For cleaning, I think it all depends on what type of fibers are used to make the afghan. Newer afghans can probably be thrown into the washing machine on gentle cycle and hung to dry. Older pieces, colors that might bleed or pieces with wool should best be left to the dry cleaners.

MaryDWelcome to DeluxeVillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11886490746108869132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7438691382825393831.post-36922192420123076912012-04-29T17:19:51.251-04:002012-04-29T17:19:51.251-04:00That's so funny, I was at the Salvation Army y...That's so funny, I was at the Salvation Army yesterday and they had quite a few afghans and I was wondering are they worth anything? Every once in a while they sell for a decent price, but all of the ones that I've snatched up I have managed to get for $2 each. They're by far better than fleece blankets to cover up with in the living room during the winter!Missouri Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18057549777667213235noreply@blogger.com
