The Great North East Snow Storm....

...has kept me out of commission for the last week. We lost power for a total of 6 days! Yup, I was living Amish all week long and let me tell you, at first it was fun but by Wednesday I was like...give me some #&*(%$ hot water so I can take a shower PLEASE! In all honesty, we were lucky as we had heat from our wood stove and a gas range to cook on. It was the lack of water and not being able to turn on the lights in the morning that really got to me.

We had about 10" of snow fall last Saturday and by Tuesday it was all melted. The heavy, wet snow brought down many trees and it sounded like bombs going off outside. Pretty scary stuff!

We also have a new addition to our family here on The Simple Acre...this little guy came meowing and running out of the forest at me on Thursday. Please don't get me started on people who dump animals! I looked for more little kitties running around but found none..or perhaps I should say, none found me!

There was nothing I could do to stop it from clinging onto me. So, I picked him up and took him into the house... knowing the whole time that it wasn't staying here! I have enough cats, thank you very much. All the other cats agreed with me, but we got out voted by Sgt and the dog! As you can see, the dog and the kitten have a very close relationship...actually the dog is obsessed with the kitten. Raven follows the kitten around constantly, sniffing, licking, and in general annoying the little guy to no end. We eventually have to pick the kitten up so he doesn't drown from doggie kisses. Yes, the secret is out, my dog loves cats.

The cats however, have a completely different opinion of the new addition!

  1. He's beautiful! I hope you can find him a forever home soon. BTW, my dogs are both obsessed with my cat and he's been here long before they arrived on the scene.

  5. I'm so glad your power's back! Does it make you feel better to know that some of us are totally jealous of your snow?

And that is one handsome little kitten! Of course I might be biased (black cats FTW!) but really... look at his sweet, mischievous little face! It's hilarious and adorable that the dog likes him so much.

  6. Oh man, the pictures showing the contrast between Raven's feelings for kitty and the other cats' feelings are hilarious. A definite classic!

Glad to hear you made it through that awful storm relatively unscathed!

  9. Aww, the ones that find you are always the best. That's how my Icarus came to be mine. Someone dumped him at the neighborhood park, and he followed me home.

  10. Gosh we heard it was bad even in the UK, all that time without power, such a pain! Even if we have a power cut for a couple of hours we realise how much we depend on electricity

Your new kitty is such a cutie!

I miss snow and cold but I think would also be ready for power and water after a day or 2.I don't know how they could stand it back when we had no electric. The new kitty is so cute.I am sure the other cats will like him soon.My dogs get like that if I even pet another animal. They don't want anything on their turf.lol.

  13. Adorable little guy! I'm glad he found a warm home and a big poochy pal. Maybe the doggie can help protect him from the other cats!

  14. Aww, he's adorable. I miss kitten love.
We only got 7" of snow in Northern NJ and lost power from Sat to Sunday night but my folks got hit hard in Newtown, CT and they JUST got it back on. Living with well water is a real adjustment when you have no power to pump it :( Do you guys have a generator? Years ago before my pops generator blew, they had it hooked up to the well.

  15. Oh, what a cutie! My cat, Saga, decided to move away from the neighbors (where she didn't have a good life), and into my house a bit more than a year ago. And she's still here. The neighbor said she'd have a better life at my place. When a cat decides to move in you can't really say no...Can you?... :)
