Flowers make everything better

Oh yes they do! Just what I needed after my devastating heywake loss yesterday. Every year the "blonde bombshell" and I wait all spring for this local greenhouse called Espenshade's to have their huge parking lot sale of all their plants. This is really the only time of year I will buy my flowers. Sometimes I do break down in the middle of spring and drag myself over to the greenhouse for a few early things. But that is a rare ocassion and usually I like to wait till now because the deals are amazing. They are so crazy amazing that I often go back more then once! So, Blondie and I decided we were going to meet in the parking lot at 6am. hehehehehe I got into the parking lot at 6am and there was already a line of people waiting to be left in........ I was at the end of the line...big surprise there...I'm always at the end of the line....I'm just bad at picking lines to get into....always the slowest line and always last in line!

So they start letting people in...I don't know if any of you know this but, plant people are crazy! It's like Filene's Basement big wedding dress sale they have every year and the gals all fight over wedding dresses. Just insert hanging baskets and day lillies instead of wedding dresses. I have been doing this sale for over five years and I have had people take things off my cart and take off with my whole cart! Plant people are crazy!

I get my big metal cart and get busy elbowing my way down the hanging basket aisle! These ladies had nothing on me ..hehehe..I had one thing they didn't, I walk high school hallways for a living! I fill up my cart and proceed to check out. That's when I realized I haven't seen the blonde bombshell yet???? As I'm standing in line, I spot her walking in with her cart...it's 6:30... she can't believe I was her at 6 and then she makes a beeline right for the perennial section!! I swear I think I saw the blonde bombshell break into a little jog as she headed over there! hehehe..... run plant lady run!

I loaded up my first cart full and went back for my second trip! I'm greedy like that! Okay that and I still had room in the car and also in my budget! Yes, I was trying to fill that empty heywake void. I'm like a total flowerholic or something! After the second cart full of flowers, my car was completely filled and I'm very surprised I was able to get it all in there! I did accidentally amputate a few cascading petunias when I closed the door but eh, no big deal, they'll grow back! I got lots of work to do around DeluxeVille today! Happy planting!

Unusual Bent Oak Sunroom Furniture

That's what the auction billing said it was. When I looked at the picture, I knew exactly what it was. Do you know what this unusual 11 pc. bent oak sun room furniture is???

If you said it's Heywood Wakefield Ashcraft ....ding, ding, ding,...you are correct! I waited all day at a very boring auction with no evil heywake dealer in sight, because it wasn't listed as heywake, only to lose the bid to the guy who just paid $290,000 for the house and wanted it for the sun room. Asshole, didn't even know what the hell it was he was buying!!! The auctionerr had no idea what he was selling. I curse the fact that I was not able to throw down $900 so I could buy it....why do I have to be so responsible! This was a very rare find and an absolutely great buy, the whole set sold for $850. I am off to cry salty tears into my pillow.

I fell in love today....

...with a house. I went to check out an auction today. No luck at the auction so, I thought I would swing by this very cute little neighborhood that was close to the auction to snap some pictures of some super fab ranch houses!

This ones super cool and a fav of mine!

Then there's this one....

This one's kinda cool!

How green is this grass!

Would it be a complete sin for me to call and go for a tour ?? I mean, I already have a house but I would sell mine in a heartbeat for this place. The bad thing is, the fact that it's in Lebanon....I have no real desire to live in the same place I work....it's in the suburbs of the city but still considered the city....but it's soooo dreamy!!!

A very special tiki delivery!

They delivered my bar!!! YAY!!!! It was unexpected, they called me and said can we just bring it to you instead of you picking it up?? My Dad will be very happy as I was going to make him and my brother pick it up for me. Why did I think it was so heavy?? It really isn't that bad to lift at all. They also brought me the original stool without the seat but how easy will that be for me to fix...um real easy! Perhaps I'll try to fit it in the house after all?? It's to cool to leave unused in the studio space! Drinks on me everyone!

MCM Estate

Today was preview day for this auction that I have been so excited about now for months. All I can say is what the hell?? Where was all the cool 50s/60s stuff??? How lame is it to advertise a big estate sale full of vintage MCM things when there really wasn't any?? I call that pretty stupid. Looks to me like things got picked over all ready! Okay so lack of cool crap but OMG the Estate itself was AMAZING! In need of tons of work but one super fab house!

~Kitchen view~

~Bath Room~

~The Bar~

~The Card Table~
The house has three bedrooms and a sunken living room and for the most part it's a rather small house. But the grounds are AMAZING and I could just imagine what they must have been like back in the heydays! The amount of craftsmanship seen in the stone work was incredible. The house is completely over grown with bushes and weeds but has potential to be one incredible home again!

~The steps leading to the back yard and pond from terrace~

~The terrace overlooking back yard~

~There use to be a built in pool in the middle of the terrace but they filled it in leaving a fish pond???(where the big rocks are) It's a big empty hole...they should have kept the pool!~

~The small lake/pond behind the house! Has it's own little boat dock too!~

~Review~

~A view from my front window~

~Week In Review~

  • Took both cats to the vets. A blood sport between Mr. Remy and me! He drew blood but I won!
  • Put mulch around front flower garden.
  • Scheduled all important Dr. appointments.
  • Decluttering the closet.
  • Spending 3-4 hours working on graduate classes a day!!!
  • Ebaying.
  • Watching it rain.
  • Eating grilled cheese!!!
  • Goin to the gym.
  • Making friends with the local police department!
I'm having such a blast my first week of summer vacation! But if one more person says to me...Oh that must be nice to be a teacher and have your summers off...I'm gonna smack them in the head! Even if I like them, they're getting smacked. Give me a break! Trust me, I work my ass off and probably put in enough overtime every day to make up for having the summer off! I think it's probably the same feeling a stay at home Mom feels when someone says to them...must be nice to stay at home and have your husband support you! It's like they think you do nothing at home all day and have no stress?? Why do people always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence?

Nothing is ever simple

On Monday I asked the The blonde bombshell (aka my mom) if I could come over and borrow her steam cleaner. She said sure, stop over and pick it up anytime. Which is exactly what I did yesterday. After I opened the door, well that's when all hell broke loose and I set of the security alarm! It was the LOUDEST alarm I have ever heard and the stupid thing is yelling INTRUDER, INTRUDER!! Now, don't get me wrong, I am all for my parent's safety out there in the middle of Amish country. I mean you just never know when a young pack of Amish youth will try to break in and steal your TV! I just wish they would have taken the time to tell me the code and to show me how to disarm the stupid thing. So I proceeded to run over to the stupid alarm and whack it around a few times yelling SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP!! This method has always worked with students in my class but apparently it does not work with alarm systems! I then ran back out to my car to grab my phone and call my Mom who of course was not in her office. I called her cell...nope not there! I called my step-father...nope not in his office either. I called my sister, who lives there when not at college and gets to know the codes....nope not there! I stood there on the back porch for 10min listening to the alarm. That's about the time I heard the police sirens. Dear god I hope that wasn't for me! Yup, it sure was! Thank god they didn't shot me! I guess police don't shot cute girls in dresses, wearing heels with dogs under their arms and crying. My lucky day! My sister finally called back and gave me the alarm code and was nice enough to tell me the police were on their way! Hey thanks, but I think I know that! It was lots of fun as crying girl tries to tell police officers who she is, why her parents haven't given her the alarm codes and that she's only there to borrow the steam cleaner. My sister and my step father showed up. My step-father took over the police interrogation for me. My sister found the steam cleaner, we put it in my car and I left. Yes, I fled the scene of the crime! I know some day I will laugh about this at some family reunion but right now, it's still not very funny.

Now, where in the hell is MaryDeluxe going to put this amazing tikilicious bar?? Does it really matter???

Hey Hon!

If yas gots nothin to do this weekend, put your hair up in a beehive and head on down to Bawlmore and check out Hon Fest!

Miss Hon 2008

TOP TEN THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BEING BALTIMORE'S BEST HON 2009
  1. You fill out the application the day of HonFest next to the Main Stage beginning at 10am.

  2. If you become one of the top ten finalists you will need to return on Sunday to finish the competition.

  3. Our Motto: "The higher the hair the closer to God!"

  4. Our mission: "Honor the Working Women of America". We honor WOMEN.

  5. Our goal: HonFest gives you permission to have fun, HON!

  6. No cigarettes, no booze, no foul language, no exceptions.

  7. Must have a unique HON style, command of our beloved language "Bawlmerese" and a great personality.

  8. Must be available 3 or four times a year to dress up and must ride in the Mayors Christmas Parade December 7th.

  9. Talent is not a requirement, but we all have very special hidden talents so if you sing or read poetry or just want to tell a special story keep it to one minute and e-mail me your idea in advance so that we can be prepared. (Example: One year Heidi won because she played "take me out to the Ball game" on a xylophone made from Natty Boh bottles. This was considered in good taste and acceptable.

  10. My mother, Judy, is a judge for the contest. This makes her Judge Judy. She has very high standards... 10 years of therapy and I think I am ok now, HON!

Cole of California makes a killer sundress!

I recently found a cute sundress made by Cole of California on one of my favorite sites to shop... You all know which one I mean as I am a super thrifty gal! I know that Cole of California made lots of swimwear items but I never knew they did dresses! So off I went to research my latest find as I was very interested to gain more knowledge about the company. There's not a lot of info out there regarding their dresses....in fact, I ran across very few dresses online. I did finally get lucky and discovered The Powerhouse Museum's site (which looks like an absolutely amazing place) and was excited to discover this cheongsam and bronze capri pants outfit! What a killer outfit and it's made in the same pattern material as my sundress! This info helped me date the dress to early 1950's.

I love the peasant style gathered bust! The dress is in amazing condition and looks like it's never been worn. A keeper for my collection! I think I need some cute new shoes now!

Saturday Fun

I wore my trousers!
What a great day for the WWII Reading Air Show! So many things to do and see! A smorgousboard of visual over load! It was my first year attending the actual show so I was quite overwhelmed with all that was going on. My date was very good at showing me around and he kept me moving until my legs gave out and I had to sit down under the wing of some sort of fighter plane??? It was really cool to watch the planes take off and fly around overhead. The planes sounded loud and scary. I could just imagine how terrifying it must have been to hear them flying over your house during war time.

Here I am some where in Germany??!! Trying to give the couple behind me some privacy.
Notice I am wearing my saddle shoes which are much better for walking in (and boy did I do some walking) ...and let me just tell you it was really muddy from all the rain we had last week but I'm happy to say the pants stayed clean!

1940's Trousers

I'm going to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum's World War II Weekend tomorrow and I think I'm going to wear my 1940's gabardine trousers. I'm using the picture above as a resource to what direction I'm thinking of going in. I found this awesome pair of pants at an estate sale about a year ago. The woman who owned them was a WAC during WWII. She had saved all of her military uniforms and some of her civilian clothes from that time. I was able to purchase her 1940's suit and pants. Last year they were a wee bit snug on me but now they fit perfect!

Finding a vintage pair of 1940's gabardine trousers can be a difficult task but different sites such as Vivien of Holloway and ReVamp Vintage are making reproduction pants. If you keep your eyes open, you can run across them from time to time on Ebay.
