Letting go

I've decided to clean out my house and get rid of some things that I'm not attached to any more. I was thinking of going full out and renting a booth at an antique mall. I'm sure some of my DeluxeVille readers do that. Care to discuss with me the pros and cons of this endeavor? What kinds of items are selling for you? My biggest concern is once I sell some of the things I don't want, then I would have to go and find more things to sell in the booth. I just don't know if I want that responsibility. I'm also concerned about the economy, are people really buying right now? Perhaps etsy is the best way to go?? All I know is it's gotta go, I just don't have the room any longer!

I also really need to start getting rid of some of my lamps.

  5. I'm so up in the air about what I want to do? Some things I want to get rid of is really heavy and I would hate to ship it as the rate would be killer.

  6. I'd suggest that you just put it up here for starters, with PayPal buttons. You have a pretty hefty readership and they/we already like your stuff. :o) Start with the lighter stuff and see how it goes, then move into the more challenging packing projects.

That Griffith spice rack with the cherry decals... Tell me, did you happen to get the decals from SweetGalDecals? Because that's me. :o) They look like one of my sets.

  8. You might be able to find a shop to take things on consignment if you don't want to bother with selling yourself, but as you say, with this economy, who's shopping? If you put them on this blog, we won't be able to resist.

  10. What amazing things! I understand your need to slim down a little though. lol I've never sold in a market so I'm no help there but I agree that the lighter stuff you could start with on Etsy!

  11. Like a lot of folks who read this blog, I have a ton of "vintage treasure". I looked into consigning some stuff and it didn't work out. Many antique stores charge a monthly rent and then they want a percentage of what is sold. The shops I checked also wanted a business license which brings in Tax. Add that to transport, setup, accounting and maintenance. It's a lot. Try Etsy

  12. Okay Mary, please check something out here: First lulusdressshop.com. Then lulusdressshop.blogspot.com. The first is a little website that I, even I, the HTML Ignoramus, was able to build with the help of a handy little shopping cart widget found at ecwid.com. And it's free! Then I made a blog and used the same widget on it. That way, any time I add some new product to the widget, it shows up both places. There's even supposed to be a way to load the widget on Facebook, though I haven't figured it out yet.

As for Al's comments above, as soon as you sell something, you're a business. Being on Etsy or eBay won't avoid that. Might as well go legal.

  13. Gosh! You are my idol! Everytime I see your place or any of the lovely things you own in your place I run and find my bf, "babe isnt her house the best, doesnt she have the best mcm stuff ever. babe she is my idol." Then said bf looks at me like I am crazy and tells me I really need to stop falling in love with lamps and couches.

I have not sold anything on etsy but I am a big fan of buying on etsy and I do appreciate a seller who knows the items they are trying to sell. I am sure you would be a big hit!

As for weight you can sell on craigslist that way it is pick up only.

Or you could always do a small giveaway.
