A Vintage Workout

Okay everyone, if you live in the northern hemisphere, swim suit season, VLV, and backyard BBQ's are just around the corner and I wanna know, how are all you gals out there getting ready for it?? Any secret tricks up your sleeves you wish to share?? What gets you ready for poolside??

I workout daily all year due to my stressful job. Hitting the gym on a daily basis to me is my salvation. I could have the worst day ever and once I'm at the gym and running or doing an elliptical machine, everything goes away. I am zen! I feel empowered again and strong. I am lucky because I enjoy exercise and like to switch up what I do so I don't get bored. Right now my current obsession is the Precor 100i .... This is the torture device that is currently kicking my ass at the gym! This machine is a combination of elliptical/stepper/running....you name it and it will do it! I spend about 45 min making friends with it and then move on to the StairMaster.

Yes, the StairMaster with the steps that descend over and over again. Another killer machine that firms up your legs and ass like no other. I think this machine doesn't get the respect it deserves... if you want to get a good workout try doing this machine for 30 min....I am currently only up to 15 min...I'm telling you it's a killer.

I alternate days with running on the treadmill ... another great exercise for legs. I usually spend an hour on the treadmill. I run 2 - 2 1/2 miles and then alternate walk/runs. Today I had a personal best and ran 3 1/2 miles straight before I began my walk!!! I totally kicked ass!! I'm planning on being ready for my 5k run!! I have to say.... after I was done with my 5 miles on the treadmill today, I felt AMAZING. Exercise = best drug ever!!

Really??? What the hell is this?? Is she knitting??? If I'm not sweating, I'm not exercising!

  3. Sigh. The "Ladies Reduce Fat" model is me. Probably because knitting while sitting on an exercise machine sounds totally exhausting to me.

  4. great post! I've been dreading swim suit season! but unlike most years, I plan on doing something about it this time! I have a stationary bike in my livingroom that I just pulled out to use this morning, I have stairs in my house so I've started walking the stairs every day. I also have a few yoga dvd, which are so nice to do in the morning. Seriously, the very best workout in the entire universe for me is belly dancing! I bought a belly dancing tape hosted by these two cheesy twins but man, it will work -every-muscle in your body! I worked muscles I didn;t even know I had! It's a full-body workout. Also, for eating, I've been cooking off theveggietable.com lately. It's all vegetarian, some vegan and all -delish-!! The mushroom barely stew is my fav, check it out! Good luck, girls!

  5. I love the knitting photo! I recently started knitting and worry that it isn't good for my physical health because I would rather knit than exercise. I keep saying that I need to come up with some kind exercise that includes knitting...ha!ha!

  7. I do pilates 2 times a week all year round. I love it and it keeps me honest about any extra weight I put on but as you mentioned with swimsuit season upon us I have been on the cardio machines at the gym regularly lately -3 times a week is generally all I have time for though - eliptical and treadmill 20/20.

  8. I'm horrible about working out! I have a gym membership somewhere... I eat Lean Quisine and Healthy Choice meals to cut out calaries, and I try to dance as often as possible. I wish I were more motivated to work out but I'm just not.

  9. Ugh, I hate exercise! I avoid it at all costs.
I do, however, enjoy being active. For example, I love a good bit of swimming and I really love bicycling (and you can do it in a dress!) Golf is lovely and stylish and I occasionally play tennis. But sweating? You can forget about it! Once I get sweaty I'm done.

  10. I need to start thinking about that. I wish I could find your healthy eating blog from before Christmas..but I can't find it. I saw a funny Madmen episode about these weight loss machines that vibrated. No one had any record of losing weight - but they sure didn't want to give their "machines"!!LOL

  11. LOL- I have one of those jiggly machines with a belt (called a "belt massager"). Of course it doesn't do much for you, but it's fun for parties. Maybe I'll do a blog post on that...;)
