Auction Saturday

Crazy auction Saturday. It's snowing and freezing outside so why not head off to an outside estate sale?? Makes perfect sense to me. After all I needed an auction fix. I didn't think there was going to be lots of people there due to the crappy weather and I was right about that one but quite a lot of dealers were there. Dealers that tend to like the same things I do. So, I didn't have much hope for actually snagging anything because I wasn't looking to spend a ton of money. I originally went to check out these lamps. I wasn't in love with them and need another set of huge lamps like a hole in my head but if I could get them for a good deal, why not?

The lamps were unmarked and when they came up for sale, it was me and a dealer bidding on them and I stopped at $50 as this was the limit I gave myself for the day. So, he got em for $55. Sometimes you win some and sometimes you lose some. Just how it works. I was also saving my funds for another set of chalk ware lamps that I liked better. Those I did get. I don't care much for the shade but they match really well to the set of lamps I got a couple weeks back. For now, I put them in my dressing room. I will have to look around for some fiber glass shades to replace the ones on there. Perhaps I'll save my funds and buy some from here: Moon Shine Lamp and Shade. Shades that are to die for!!

I also picked up a flamingo mirror. The mirror is fogged up but the artwork on the inside is in excellent condition so I plan on removing it and finding a cool frame for it.

I also got a frozen face and feet! I will not be going to anymore outside sales until spring. That was just stupid of me to stand out there for 5 hours freezing my ass off! This just proves that I have a problem. A very serious problem....I smell an intervention in my future! :)

  1. I know exactly what you mean
We have an auction every week here in Wellington (inside however!).
I get physical symptoms if for some reason I cant attend. i am very worried, maybe we should come up with a 12 step program for auction addicts.

  3. I am so jealous of all your Heywood Wakefield, just so you know! It's been a while since a good auction here in Tennessee, and since it's turned cold all the companies probably won't have any more until Spring. That's depressing. I get all shaky and nervous every time, scared to death I'll get outbid on something I just have to have. How much did you pay for the flamingo mirror at the auction? I've always wanted one, but they're always just a little too much at the antique stores.

  4. I have never actually been to an auction, i think that's partly because i'm scared that if i got my heart set on something, common sense would fly out of the window and i would end up spending stupid amounts of money!!
To stand in the freezing cold for 5 hours... yes i think you have a problem hehe!

  5. I could learn to love those shades... I think they are called "ballerina" shades. Great find!

  6. SusieQ...the mirror was $20 and the lamps were also $20. I came in under budget! :)

Stefanie... I know what you mean about getting caught in a bidding war just because you really want something. I have learned that if it's more of a common item, I'll have the chance to see it again so I will set a limit and once I hit that amount I stop. Rare items I tend to bid higher on.

Pam...that would make sense that they are called ballerina shades as they do remind me of tutus!

Claire...we need to start an online support group! :)

  9. Oh I recommend Moonshine shades, we got 3 shades for the living room, 2 tier in just plain white with gold atomic stars and aqua lacing, 2 big and 1 small and we LOVE them! It did cost an omg fortune but was so very much worth it! It would have been too hard to find 3 matching shades and in white too and a pattern and style we liked. And when I saw they came in those adorable star pattern I had to get them. But since we just got white with the pattern and not colored/dyed shades I guess it didn't take as long, I had them in a week I was so excited! Shipping is pretty pricey with it too but like I said definitely worth it.
Those ballerina shades are cute too though, I have one similar shade.
