Just A Little Dream

My dream, if money was no option, would be to own an old roadside motel. Something like the Cloister Motor Court above in the old vintage post card. I ran across the Cloister Motor this summer in Ephrata Pa because it had a big for sale sign in front of it! Unfortunately the years have not been very kind to this motel and it now looks like this.

My plan would be to have each room done in a vintage style....40's 50's 60's....and offer package deals where I would take people out to all the local auctions/flea markets/antique haunts/estate sales to go treasure hunting. Of course, I would have to rename the motel and call it "DeluxeVille"!!

But then who would really want to stay at a kitschy roadside motel when there's a brand new shiny Hampton Inn a few blocks down the road!

I should probably just stick to teaching! hehehe

Saturday Auction Find

Today was Saturday and for me Saturday always means auction day. I was torn today between going to the vintage clothing auction or checking out an auction that had this picture in it's item listing...

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, that is a picture of Franciscan Starburst china. But that was all that was mentioned in the auction listing. Now, you must understand I have china pattern pieces out the wazoo and really don't need anymore that makes me waste my time trying to collect a full set. Some of you know what I mean. I'm trying to stick to buying only complete sets of things. Like most Mid Century lovers out there, I lust after this Franciscan china pattern so, I thought I would go take my chances and have a look see...ya just never know???

Well, you can all just hate me now and get it over with because today at auction I found and bought a 52 piece set of Franciscan Starburst china! WEEEEEEHEEEEEEEEE!!!

I gave myself a budget of $100 bucks and got this set and all of these metal plant stands for around $90! All I wanted was that cool black metal magazine rack but had to buy the other 3 metal stands to get it...I hate when they do that!

I've been having some serious good auction luck lately?? The universe must have decided to be kind to me after my most recent broken heart incident. Perhaps that is how it works?? Broken heart = good auction luck! Something weird did happen to me at auction though, some man ran over to help me carry out the stands to my car...which was very nice of him...but then he said he really wanted to meet me and then slipped me his number. This freaked me out a lot because this is how I met the last fella who broke my heart. The guy seemed very nice so I took his little note thanked him and said it was nice to meet him. I am in no way, shape, or form ready to date again. Plus, the guy was a little older then me or maybe a lot older? Any way, I give him credit for seeing something he wanted and having the guts to try and get it even though he might fail....that's more then what the last guy I dated had!

Vintage Clothing Auction!

This looks like another great vintage clothing and accessories auction! I'll have to check my schedule and see if I can make this one. Who wants to go with me??? That bakelite bracelet and earring set will most definitely bring a pretty penny...I've never seen anything like it. Check the website to drool over the rest of the pictures!

Love those decals!

Maria the owner of Sweet Gal Decals contacted me when she saw how faded the labels on my Griffith spice jars had gotten. She was nice enough to send me a new set of decals to replace the faded ones. In all fairness, I put these labels on eight years ago and I think the fade gives the jars a nice vintage look.

You should really stop over and check out all the vintage inspired decals at Sweet Gals! Lots to choose from and a variety of possible ways to use them too. All her decals are made from waterslide material which makes em really easy to use. I'm really digging the cowboy decals! Now, I just have to find something to use em on! YEEHAW!!

How the magic happens...

I was home from work today being sick. BLAH! I hate being sick, I hate missing work. I don't trust substitutes with my classes. I am also off tomorrow for a planned personal day. I hate missing work 2 days in a row. My classroom will be a mess when I get back on Friday.

After sleeping all day today, I am now wide awake and decided it's the perfect time to give this hair tutorial by the Vintage Starlet a try! I sprayed my hair with some lotta body, rolled my hair up in perm rods and sat under my vintage hair dryer for an hour!

Not to bad for a first experimental attempt! All in all, I like using perm rods. The curl is much nicer and fuller then when I use a hot rollers. I'm gonna experiment a little more with brushing out and see what other looks I can get.

Letting go

I've decided to clean out my house and get rid of some things that I'm not attached to any more. I was thinking of going full out and renting a booth at an antique mall. I'm sure some of my DeluxeVille readers do that. Care to discuss with me the pros and cons of this endeavor? What kinds of items are selling for you? My biggest concern is once I sell some of the things I don't want, then I would have to go and find more things to sell in the booth. I just don't know if I want that responsibility. I'm also concerned about the economy, are people really buying right now? Perhaps etsy is the best way to go?? All I know is it's gotta go, I just don't have the room any longer!

I also really need to start getting rid of some of my lamps.
