As you might remember, we started our Spring veggie garden at the end of March. Things have really started moving along in the veggie patch! As you can see, we have our big garden very organized with specific areas for veggies and straw paths for walking. The straw helps cut down on the weeding, which will be a big deal later this Summer!
Spinach, mixed lettuce, radishes (which we've started eating!), and kale. Can you spot my blurry garden buddy in the upper right?
Here's my other garden buddy...Capt'n Gus (the feral cat I trapped by accident in December) ...the most awesomeness, sidekick garden cat you could ask for. No really, he's better behaved outside than the Hound dog. Comes when called, stays in the yard, follows me around, and doesn't bother the chickens. Sgt thinks it's the weirdest thing to watch him follow me around the yard as I do various chores. To be perfectly honest, I also find it very weird how much he has attached himself to me.
Lots more yet to plant. We'll be laying out plans for our Summer garden this weekend, which includes...tomatoes, basil, squash, watermelon, cucumbers, peppers, egg plant, cilantro, zucchini, beans...the list goes on. Then in July we'll plan and plant for our Fall garden. But I don't really want to think about that right now! I'd much rather enjoy my Spring veggies and eagerly anticipate the strawberry harvest coming soon!! May has got to be my favorite month of the year.

Hello Mary, your vegetable garden is the envy I this year my little square of land, not yet spaded, I am far behind, a little to the bad weather and a bit of laziness.

This is our first year planting strawberries. We also planted, blueberries, grapes, asparagus and two cherry trees, peach, apple and pear. We don't plan on moving ever again.
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks great! And your kitty knows you saved him so he's just extra thankful :)
ReplyDeleteWOW that is a great garden!! You will not have to go get fresh veggies for a long time! we do not have a lot of land to plant on but we are getting some beans, peas and radishes so far that we planted 2 weeks ago! I love the cat and how he follows you like a dog, he is so cool!!! He is the Capt'n! (Monica)
ReplyDeleteYour garden and your chickens look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've got kale, shallot and a tomato plant growing on my balcony. I'm hoping to make room for some lettuce and beetroots too. I always thought that growing food is much more fun than growing flowers. :)
I don't know which is more pleasing to the eye, the garden or that beautiful cat.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Does Gus let you pet him?
ReplyDeleteyup he's totally a mama's boy!
