Not Vintage

I don't wear vintage all the time. I don't do my hair or makeup all the time. I'm not a vintage elitist. I have all kinds of interests and hobbies that have nothing to do with my passion for mid-century things. Granted, I do have more vintage items then modern but I don't think any less of a person who's furnished their home with Ikea items. I don't judge here people. I love you all no matter how far into the vintage time warp hole you each fall. Most of my friends in real life don't give a hoot about vintage... but they know how to make me laugh when I need it most. Plus, I don't have to worry about competition from them at auctions! My friends, they don't always get me but they love me anyway.

Dear God MaryDeluxe...are you wearing flip flops!!! Why yes, yes I am!
I don't care what you think...my feet feel FREE!

My hair also gets curly ALL by itself!

So, let me see em. Show me your non-vintage selves out there! Post those pictures to your blogs...I dare you! I double dog dare you!!!

*****I wanna know....who wears abercrombie and fitch?? Or perhaps a tie dye or two?? How about 80's hair band t-shirts....go on, I'm waiting!!!

  2. whatever, we live in postmodern times (eclectic, subjective and from multiple perspectives). its not healthy to fit your self entirely into any one box whether its as a mother, vintage enthusiast, accountant, nerd or whatever. I have lots of pictures on my blog from my trip to yosemite last summer, so lots of my outdoorsy side is expressed there, more as I venture out into the woods this summer.

  3. Well done you for freeing yourself! But it is funny seeing you looking un-vintage in the MOST vintage surroundings! You look wonderful with or without your vintage mask, and your hair is distinctly vintage looking when left natural you lucky gal!x

  4. hahahaha yeah right....look how un-vintage I am in my totally vintage surroundings! hahahaha

Somedays, I don't even get out of my pajamas!

  5. There are plenty of days where i just stick on a pair of very un-vintage trousers or shorts and many days where i can't be bothered to put my hair in rollers for the night. I have met some vintage snobs who look down their noses at me if i am wearing a repro dress or if they catch me not all dressed up- I DON'T CARE! I'm way cooler than they are :)

  7. Hey I like Ikea! I wish we had one here around Nashville. And thank you for being a flip flop girl and admitting it! I wear them because theres lots of times I just would rather go barefoot but cant! I guess thats the hippy in me I got from my mama.

  8. Stefanie...Oooo I know some vintage snobs too! It sucks to have to try to look perfect all the time! no thanks...sometimes I just don't feel like it and I never understand why people really care what other people do or don't do???

    Atomic...It's an Ikea rug!! hahaha

  9. Funny thing is that I was thinking about vintage snobbery this morning before your post.
I almost never dress truly vintage, doesn't mean I don't appreciate it, it just doesn't happen. I do surround myself with vintage whether it is the house, the yard, music, books, movies or whatever.
Snobbery of any sort sucks. Variety is where it is at. Individuality makes life so much more interesting and that is what I appreciate.

  10. Hail Mary! :)

Thanks for this post. There are few things more annoying to me than vintage snobbery.
I would take you up on your dare but I already do it!!! :) Oh and I am the queen of 80's tshirts. Here's a link to my 80's night post: http://mintchocolateranch.blogspot.com/2009/12/baby-its-cold-outside.html

  20. The only time I'm not 'vintage' is when I'm wearing my track pants + hoodie at home in winter. But whenever I go out I 'dress up'. But only because it's more comfortable and fun for me! I don't care what others think, and it doesn't matter to me if others do it part or full time. It's all about being comfortable, physically, mentally, etc. Most of my friends aren't really into it, either. But as you said that means less competition ;]

  22. that is too freaky, I started a post very similar to yours the other day but didn't finish, have accounts to do, uurgh!

Well done, I hate vintage snobs, I confess to being one when I was very young & just into it, but lordy I'm 43, I'm comfortable with who I am and I don't care what people think because I'm loved by people who matter to me!

  23. he he - I will take you up on that challenge. I will also take a photo of me RIGHT now cos I am wearing 70s.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Inky! That's a great picture of you and the hubby! Have I told you just how fab you are for 50! Wow!!

Andi...I go through times when I'm doing the vintage all the time....other times just the clothes, or the hair. It comes and goes but my passion is always there.

Straight Talking M...yup I'm with you sister! I've been around long enough and doing this long enough that I don't feel I need to prove anything to anyone. If a "vintage" styled person wants to put me down because I'm not looking "vintage" enough for them well, that's their problem! Chances are fairly high that I know more about vintage then they do and I don't need to put my nose up in the air about it!

    Lets see it heyday! :)

  25. Thank you for the compliment! Your blog is always quite entertaining!
With age, if lucky, comes a sense of comfort in one's own skin. I have no time for snobs and laugh/cast dispersions in their general direction!

  28. I judge. I think vintage elitists are a bunch of snobs and nutcases.
I have enough stress in my life, thank you very much.

  31. I shall post a pic soon on my blog but I love Forever 21 and MAC makeup. Meaning, a portion of my closet goes to leggings and slouchy shirts and tunics, and quite often you will see me with smokey eyes and nude lips. Blue, green, pink and yellow eyeshadow is not off limits for me!! Oh, and I love flip flops and Converse for comfort. Great post!!
