I had a rather unpleasant phone call from one of my administrators at the school where I work today and without going into all the nasty little details about the phone conversations (yes more then one!) I will just say, I was left in rather a grumpy mood when all was said and done. So, what does MaryDeluxe do when she gets put into a grumpy mood over events she had no control over in the first place?? Don't let the pictures fool you and say vintage shop because that would be so wrong! I actually do two things.... I workout and I clean. So, today I exercised and I cleaned like a fiend and thought about all the things in my life that I do have control over and then I felt much better. Better enough to show you my lovely vintage finds from last week! All for $35! Not bad! I wasn't sure about the suit but bought it anyway because it was cheap enough. When I put it on at home, it fit perfect so she's a keeper. Every vintage gal needs at least one good vintage swim suit for summer pool parties and well, I've got several so why not one more? Now, how about those shoes??
Adorable!
ReplyDeleteAre phone calls from admin ever fun? Ick, my sympathies.
ReplyDeleteLove those shoes, and the swimsuit is fab. i have never found one for myself on my thrifting and vintage shopping- I am envious.

Your coping techniques sound much more productive than mine! :D Great vintage finds! I can't believe they were so cheap!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the bad admin call. Gorgeous suit, though...and the Cure song that started up while I was browsing your page just made me even happier!!
ReplyDeleteI love the suit! great find
ReplyDeleteThe suit is to die for!
ReplyDeleteThe Cure because it's so freakin hot here on the stinkin east coast!
MaryD
adore the suit!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds and also great coping techniques, well done!
ReplyDeleteLove the swimsuit btw, very cute!
Beautifull retro piece ! Cool !!
ReplyDeleteMilo is so cute, i want to give him hugs !
The shoes are great. And you're right about the swimsuit: every vintage gal should have a vintage one!
ReplyDeleteHey BUBBLE-GUM-BETZ...you're the TOPS, you're the COLISEUM (I know!! I sing soooo off key!).
ReplyDeleteSounds like you did the right thing and just knuckled down and worked off all that angst that silly old bird created for you!! Just think...you turned something pretty negative and destructive into something really positive by getting a clean home out of it and a spanking fit bod!! Bet that OLD BIRD can't say the same - haha.
So how's Major Cute doing with Sgt Hot then..? (see? keep smiling :-)...)
Hey, sorry to hear you are feeling a bit bullied, it doesn't sound like fun. The Bathing suit looks lovely and I know the colour will be great on you. I adore pics of your cats!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great suit. I have never seen a vintage bathing suit anywhere. Living here on the east coast of Florida on minutes from the beach it's all about teeny weeny bikini's...ugh.Hope your week gets better from here.
ReplyDeleteYes, yesterday I forgot one of the most important rules of being a teacher...when an admin wants you to do something that makes no sense, just smile, shake your head yes, and say mmmmhmmmmm! Because really in the end it doesn't matter anyway, it's just a job, not my life!
ReplyDeleteMaryDeluxe
The real insanity of it all is that you heard from an administrator during summer break! In my neck of the woods they tend to lay low during the summer.
ReplyDeleteAnd it IS important to remember that it is a job and not your life. I truly enjoy what I do, even moreso today than 17 plus years ago when I started, but it isn't all I am.
Touchofevil!
That swimsuit is a dream!
ReplyDeleteTouchofevil...I know right! I think she called just to purposely ruin the rest of my summer. Before the school year ended I was asked what classes I wanted to teach next year...so I told them. So yesterday she calls me to tell me well there's a problem and what classes do I want to teach next year...so I once again tell her?? Oh no she says, you can't do that?? So she tells me what I need to teach and I say oh no, I can't do that! And she says I have to and I say well, why are you even asking me then what I want to teach if you're just gonna tell me what I'll be teaching anyway??
ReplyDeleteLets face it she doesn't give a shit about my art program...she just needs places to dump kids. So they took ALL my upper level art classes from me (which means my 10,11, 12 grade students who want to take art classes to build a portfolio for art school can't)and then she gave me 60 9th grade ESL students (which I have to write new curriculum for because the class doesn't exist yet) on top of my already 140 students!!!
FUCK FUCK FUCK!
Hate where I work...

As the lead teacher at an alternative high school, I am in charge of report cards, transcripts, meeting with parents, discipline, testing, and teaching a full load of English and Math allllllllllll for 3 cents an hour extra. Buuuuuut they know that it will get done for free and has for years so they leave us alone for the most part other than the occasional pat on the head, hence I am fortunate.
ReplyDeletePrograms such as Art, Agriculture, ROTC, and a few others tend to receive very little respect from the administration. As politicians in the educational system they do not comprehend the value of a true Art program other than as a space for a lukewarm body. I have empathy for you and others who try to do it right but are consistently stymied by the Laws of Politics. All you can do is to try and make your program what you want it to be while still fitting in "their" little world. And of course venting every once in a while because it is healthy!
And seeing how as I have rambled on more than one should and could continue moreso, now is a good time to sip on a George Hornsby's Crisp Cider Ale!
Touchofevil!
Touchofevil...I have discovered that it is most easy to vent to another teacher because it's pretty much the same "bullshit" where ever you teach! :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the ale! :)
