Vintage Regrets

I, like many of my amazing DeluxeVille readers out there, are what I like to call "vintage enthusiasts". Over the years I have acquired and let go of many a vintage item...like I'm sure many of you have also. This morning, I was back once again spending some quality time in my closet. As you all know by now, I am much smaller then I use to be. After trying on some of my vintage dresses that I acquired years ago, I discovered that apparently my boobs have gone on vacation somewhere without me. Yes, this means more dresses will go to the auction block due to my vacationing boobs. I was thinking, I could keep the dresses in hopes of a future boob job or I could clean out the closet and buy new things. Hmmm which is more likely to happen? Oh yes, new things... though I guess new boobies could be considered new things too! :)

Any way, what I want to know is....... What vintage item have you sold over the years that still haunts your dreams and you wish you would have never gotten rid of??

Here's mine, this vintage gabardine western outfit still haunts me. I sold it many years ago.... because at that time, I couldn't fit into it...now I would be able to. It haunts me just lookin at the picture. Vintage trousers are so hard to find....trust me, I'm always on the look out for em!

So tell me, what is your biggest vintage regret regarding something you let go of??? Better yet, show me!

  1. I don't have any regrets yet (but I'm sure I will!) I am also celebrating vacationing boobs! I recently stopped nursing my baby and am THRILLED to be able to buy normal bras and shirts again. The problem with my "vacationing boobs" is that I know some day, they will come home! :( Be glad, with lack of boobs comes an abundance of cute clothes that you -can- wear! xoxo

  2. Brittany....I'll give you some time, eventually there will be something that will haunt you! hahaha As for boobies, I don't mind that they got smaller because everything else also got smaller with them...it would have really sucked if it was just my boobs getting smaller! lol....I would be really bitchy then! :)

  3. A brushed cotton gingham dress my sister gave me, it was hers in the 70s. I wore it in a school play when I was older, I was an orphan in 'Annie', and then I think it got thrown out. It was so soft and cosy and pretty at the same time! I'm not a real fan of 70's stuff but this was an exception. I can't even find a picture of it now!

LOVE the Western suit, such a shame it's gone too.

  4. oh god where to start I have soooo many vintage regrets, mostly shoe related I always had FAR too many shoes, I have small feet and bought anything that fit me, which was everything.

Hang on I know a huge vintage regret, and I don't even know why I got rid of them but they looked exactly like these from Rocket Originals http://www.rocketoriginals.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=ESTHER%2DBLACK but were green and yellow oh yes people they were stunning!

And then there was.... no hang on this could go on forever!!

  5. I remember this 1950s dress, with green sequins, that I saw as an au-pair girl in Paris. It was soo beautiful, but I did not have the money ... As for chest, I never had much to begin with ;) But sometimes I wish some of those extra kilos would move up intstead of down ... lol!

  6. I don't have any boob concerns, but you should take your vintage clothes to a tailor! Don't get rid of them! A good tailor can fit a lot of those and you wouldnt even know it.

  7. A green gabardine 1940s suit. It was in pristine deadstock condition and fit like a dream. It's been years and I'm still thinking about it. Ugh

  9. I was just thinking about this today. I have so many regrets. I sold my entire collection to spend 3 months in Paris. Also I lost 87 lbs and refuse to take in original plus size vintage. Unfortunately someone on ebay who does not hold the same ideas bought them and shrunk them down... horror!

  10. It was a pair of capri pants-- souvenir capri pants from the Bahamas. I blogged about it early on in the life of my blog.
    AWESOME novelty print. Junkanoo-related.
The thing was, they had a 23" waist. The waist fit fine, but they were always a bit small in the ass.
Well, they would definitely not fit now... nor would I want them to fit!
I needed the money, got quite a bit for them... but the fact that they came from the Bahamas and had a cool novelty print on 'em (that's what I collect)...

  13. Oh yes I can see we are all feeling your pain! I would be missing that western suit for sure! It is hard to know with size when to get rid of stuff- I have worked out now it is often a mistake to get rid of stuff I am sick of- cause if I pack it away I often enjoy rediscovering it and falling back in love again. Sell if you need the bucks and maybe keep some of the stuff you could alter boob wise (my boobs are always on vacation- so annoying with dress fit!) Let us know what you decide :)

  14. I think I accidentally gave away my mom's t-shirt from Prince's Purple Rain tour when I was young. Oh God, I regret that so much.

Kudos on finding vintage items to fit busty girls. I have such a hard time doing that. Any time you can *cough cough* give me first dibs? ^_~

  15. I had one of those vintage ( 1940's )satin quilted PINK robes that tie around the middle, the inside was a purple color. It was so cool and lovely but I gave it away. I also had a vintage black western jacket with white piping trim that I gave away.
I have gave away a lot of things over the years that I still think about. Glad you lost the weight, why is it the boobies always go first ??
    love your outfit here.

  16. I find it interesting also that the small size women find alot of plus size vintage fashions and can't use them and the larger size ladies find all the teeny sizes :(

  17. A vintage 1940s wool coat with a 24inch waist, that was given to me by Aunt, and Mike Bennett 50s prom dress which I got for £10. I have more regrets about things I didnt buy, like a 1950s gold sequin girdle!

  18. I'm pretty sure I have the pattern for that outfit! I'll have to dig it out and check.

  19. I remember when you got that, it's so fabulous I would never have been able to let it go even if it never fit me. I regret getting rid of my vintage things I had when I was in my teens, stupidly thinking that I would "fit in" with the "normal people" well of course I never did !!! and of that I'm so glad

  20. A gorgeous pair of boudoir 1940s slippers. God they were divine, and I am yet to see a pair as gorgeous as them. But like anon I have more regrets about things that I could have bought but missed out on!
