Happy Birthday DeluxeVille!

Can you believe it? Welcome to DeluxeVille turned one on January 5th and I totally missed it! See, this is why I don't have children. I could just imagine the places I would accidentally leave them...."Hey, lady there's a baby on the roof of your car!" I would totally be Joan Crawford for sure..."WIRE HANGERS!! How dare you bring wire hangers into my vintage house." ....now you've forced me to beat you with them. Okay, I'm so just joking about this...I have yet to lose a student on a field trip and I try really hard not to slap them around. But maybe that's because those are other people's children??? hehehehe

Anyway, back to my point of this whole post...Happy Birthday DeluxeVille!! I would also like to take a moment to thank you all for reading, commenting, making me laugh, and in general making me feel less alone in this vintage obsession of mine. It's just really nice to know there are so many other vintage whack jobs out there in the world just like me! I heart you all!

To reward you for all your love and devotion, DeluxeVille is having a giveaway! Yes, I said giveaway!!! So, it's my pleasure to present the DeluxeVille Birthday Giveaway 2010!

Yes, that's right...it's ALL for one lucky lover of DeluxeVille! A perfect kit for any vintage loving 50's gal!

XOXO,
MaryDeluxe

  1. OOOOOH! Nothin'like yellow to brighten up a dreary (& foggy, her in big Mo.) winter! Almost makes ya believe Spring may actually come someday! I am a relatively new reader/fan, but I do look back at older posts. I think my favorite so far was New Years, when you made the statement about "the new you!" All of us need that strength and optimism in out lives, and you gave it with humor, hope and vintage retro gusto!! Thanks, I am really enjoying looking at your house and fashion. Zootsuitmama

  2. Oh this is a tough one ! I love reading about your auction finds, you know I will make it out there one day with a huge U Haul.........hehe.......... and then there's seeing your home and fab fashions, not to forget the wild adventures ! but I guess it must be "Vintage Kitty" back in July when you rescued mama kitty and her kittens. I'm such a softie for a furry face and know I would have done the same thing.

  3. what lovely prizes!!! Happy Birthday to Deluxville! My favorite posts were regarding the kitties that you found (or found you!) and you took them in and found them homes. That spoke volumes about the wonderful heart you have. Good luck to us all! (i'd LOVE those glasses as I need new frames this year!!)

  7. Ooh thats a toughie, so many to chose from, mostly I like the fab auction finds and all the wonderful houses you find to photograph and the adventures of Milo, but my favourite so far has to be the letters posts you recently did. However I look forward to many more fab posts from yourself and happy birthday to Deluxville x

  8. herm, well i have only been reading for a few months even thought i JUST subscribed, but i would have to say that one of my favorite posts was the one about the ex's car. it made me smile, because i dated a gear head like that too! i know just how that would have stuck in his craw if i had done that, but c'mon, who wouldn't?! mine, was constantly working on his baby, so i couldn't drive it, but man-o-man i am envious of you lady. toolin' around in a hot rod. hot lady, hot car... it's fabulous all around. that's my vote.

  9. Lots of faves... but I think a high ranking one was where you busted the HeyWake Dealer who listed all those treasures on eBay. Heh.

  10. Hi!! My fav post from this last year was the one about Lustron homes! I spent HOURS on the internet afterwards researching them (I'm a little obsessive that way. hehe) and wishing I could import one here to Canada. But then again maybe it's a little cold here in the winter for a metal house...a well...pipe dreams!

Happy One Year Anniversary! Keep up the good work!

There are a few favourites, I really enjoyed the recent posts of the letters from your Grandfather to your Grandmother.

  12. Happy Birthday Deluxeville Blog!!!

I enjoy all of your posts, but I think one of my favorites was the one where you showed the pic of the chair your mom had recovered in one of the fabrics you designed. How sweet!

  14. Betsyyyyyyyy!!!!! isn't this just a little loaded towards the ladies. As much as I love the handbag and specs, I really, REALLY couldn't stain by street cred by being seen with them!! :/

Neeeever mind, have a lovely birthday Deluxe Ville. When I read about the surname DEVINE in your family, I thought DEVINEVILLE was nice too. So old Hollywoodish.

    Happy New year, Paddy xx

  17. Oh what a fabulous giveaway! I have to enter haha! I haven't been reading that long so I might be lost on older stories, but I did really like your post on 'rockabilies'. And the stalking of mid century homes!

  18. Happy Birthday! And WOW what a giveaway!

My favourite post would have to be a recent one, due to the uncanny parallels to my own experiences in 2009... it is the "New Year New Me" post from January 1, 2010. Two failed romances and not the best year in many regards, but still I came out of it with a "when a door closes, another opens" attitude. The Helen Keller quote expressed that sentiment even better.

Another congratulations to us both, for surviving 2009 and learning to love ourselves better in the process! :)

  19. Very tough to choose any one post as a favorite, I love the Great Auction deals you get and your photos of your furniture, lamps and your gorgeous yard. Oh and the house tours are amazing!!! But I'd say I love it best when you find something at auction and then clean it up and make it good as new, for example your patio side table and chairs. Rescuing things and fixing them up is one of my favorite things!

Your prize is AMAZING and I was just thinking yesterday how I so badly need some *to die for* glasses frames and those would be perfect!!!

  20. Congratulations! I think I shall gracefully demur from entering the competition on account of as how I'm a bloke, but I had to leave you a comment saying congratulations!

  26. I'm only a recent follower of your blog, and I have to say I enjoy it immensely! Happy Blog-birthday, and I hope there are many more to come!

What an amazing giveaway - my favorite posts so far have been the letters from your grandpa to your grandmother. I think it's really important to remind people that our parents and grandparents had lives before us - they were once young, fashionable (hence why I love mymotherthestyleicon), and in love. I can't wait to see more of them.

  27. Oh what a great giveaway...I been searching for a great pair of vintage frames....

I love all the posts in which you take on the evil HeyWake dealer....but my favorite has to be "Vintage Kitty" where you rescue the mama kitty and her kittens. You are awesome. I am a total cat lover and love to find other hip chics who love whiskers as much as a do.

Always looking forward to the next post...

  29. Happy Birthday DeluxeVille!

My favourite post was about the Lustron homes, we don't have anything like that in the UK and it was fascinating to find out about them! I also love all your posts about the beautiful things you pick up at auction, and battling the evil Heywake dealer! Plus, all the gorgeous pictures of your amazing home.

My favourite posts recently are your grandparents' letters and photos, it's wonderful to have a small insight into someone's past like that, especially at the start of a romance :)

  38. My favorite post was the huge wakefield sale post with all the lovely pictures from that sale you had the luck of going to! I have always envyed you for that post, such stunning pieces and I am so happy you were able to get a piece of that pie even though the evil wakefield dealer had to be there.

I would have to say my favorite so far has been " dude where's my car" simply because I know how it is to live here in Pa and that was deff the question I was asking myself that day too. So, count me in to win the giveaway doll!
